Pain Relief from Headaches

Pain Relief from Headaches

Pain from headaches can be so miserable that you can’t seem to function, but you can get relief by doing simple remedies at home.

There are different types:

Migraine- cause nausea/vomiting and impaired vision such as seeing stars, sparks, etc…

Cluster- usually lasts 30-90 minutes and occurs one or two more times daily for over 12 weeks.

Tension- brought on by stress and overexertion.

Sinus- caused by pressure in the sinus passages, usually you have tenderness & pain above the eyebrows.

You’re at work and get a headache, blah… Friends are coming over tonight, but you have a headache, oh no! What can you do?

Many people search to find a way to help relieve the pain without taking medication.

Let’s look at some home remedies that are sure to help. Many have been around since grandmothers have.

  • Try exercise, take a nice brisk walk in the fresh air. Both the air and exercise will get the blood flowing to the brain and should help ease the pain.
  • Lie down in a nice cool, dark room with an ice pack on your head. This helps particularly for a migraine.
  • Try applying a heat pack and an ice pack. What both? Yes, different headaches require different temperatures. Scientists believe while putting a hot compress on the back of your neck (this really helps me) and a cool one on your forehead normalizes the small blood vessels in your brain. Also, the muscles of your face are normalized, too.
  • Rub the web of skin between your forefinger and thumb with ice. Research has supported that this method works!
  • Boil equal parts of apple cider vinegar and water on the stove. Lean over, with head covered with a towel, and take about 50-80 breaths inhaling the steam, which should help relieve the pain.
  • Mix 3 tablespoons of honey in boiling water and drink. Caution don’t drink while too hot, let honey dissolve then cool down to room temperature. Honey has natural pain relieving powers.
  • Eating 10-12 almonds are the equivalent of 2 aspirin. Almonds help headaches; they won’t hurt your stomach and their healthy too!
  • Herbal Home RemediesGingko Biloba, which contains a potent vasodilator, helps to ease migraines by increasing the blood flow to the brain.
  • Peppermint oil dabbed on the temples and rubbed on the back of your ears seems to work really well for me. Combine this with lying in a dark room and your headache is sure to disappear!

As always, every remedy may not work for everybody, but try them and you’re sure to find the one that will help you get relief from your headache soon!
